Why are running shoes ugly?

I am looking for a new pair of running shoes and I have noticed that they often come in colors that do not match or have odd accents on them. I get the reflective stuff and the mesh, but my friends and I have noticed the shoes are just getting uglier in the last few years, and it isnt a case of function over form. Any clue as to why?

They are not all ugly and running shoes are not made to be pretty they are made to be a shoe that works for your foot to run distance and assist your muscles and not injure your foot. Beauty is the last thing on the designers mind. I personally don%26#039;t find them that unattractive.

i also got some really cheap ones for my weekly %26quot;running%26quot; session. they are quite ugly but hey when im sweating an swearing uncontrolably at my boyfriend (who by the way thinks running is hilarious and loves to wind me up as were running around the track) im not really bothered how my feet look

i got puma%26#039;s i think that they are not as ugly as the rest.
Reply:A lot of people are becoming %26quot;retro kids%26quot; which means 80s style is back. Also the sporty fashion world is increasingly being influenced by jamaican and african street fashion where bright loud colors just happen to be popular.
